Joshua Tree National Park
December 2019
December 2019
This was a four day trip. We got to Joshua Tree late on Friday night and slept in a campground at the lower elevation. Saturday morning we hiked into the high desert and found 4-6 inches of snow. We were expecting cold, but not snow. Night time temperatures ended up getting an extra 5-10 degrees colder than we had planned for. (Closer to 25 degrees than an expected 32 degrees.) But, we had just the right layers of clothing and did everything just right to stay warm and comfortable.
We were expecting dry conditions (no snow) so we packed all the water we needed for three days at elevation. If we'd known there would be snow, we might have packed less water and more fuel for melting snow. We managed just fine packing the extra water, however.
Fun trip! Would definitely go again in the winter.
